The twelfth season of the Indian Premier League is all set to kick start from 23rd of March 2019. IPL is one of the most awaited cricket tournament of the year. A few months ago there were speculations about IPL not being held in India due to the 2019 General Elections. In 2009 the league was held in South Africa while in 2014, a part of the tournament was shifted to UAE due to General Elections.
However, IPL authorities and BCCI seem to have figured out a way this time to keep the tournament in the country, right where it belongs. This announcement was made by BCCI in January.
The IPL schedule was reportedly supposed to be released by 4th of February, but seems to have been delayed by a week. To quote an important BCCI official –
‘We’re working closely with the Election Commission and all the authorities concerned and hopefully, it will be out in a week.’
So, as it seems, the fans will have to wait another week or so before they can begin marking their calendars. It isn’t much of a surprise that due to the General Elections, the schedule has not been finalised yet. This is because the Election Commission of India is yet to announce election dates.
There is certainly a price involved with keeping the tournament in the country. There have been talks that the franchises might have to shift their home venues and might not get to play all of their seven home matches at their home stadium.
Furthermore, this year’s IPL will be ending earlier with the Cricket World Cup starting from May 30.
IPL schedule is expected to release anytime soon this week. Stay tuned with us for the IPL 2019 schedule, IPL live score and other updates.
