Lionel Messi bags mixed reactions as he bows out of the World Cup
It was a thrilling match between France and Argentina in Kazan but in the end, the French side progressed to the quarter-finals. There were some amazing goals in the nail-biting encounter as the match ended 4-3 in favor of France. Argentina put up a brave fight with a vulnerable defense but it was not enough for them to book a quarter-final berth. Skipper Lionel Messi tried his level best for his nation but even his efforts fell short in the end.
Argentina has been struggling since the start of the tournament but somehow managed to reach the round of 16 by beating Nigeria 2-1. Lionel Messi scored an absolute stunner against the African nation which gave them the early lead in the must-win clash.
There were mixed reactions from the fans regarding Messi’s performance in this year’s World Cup. Some think that the team did not compliment him enough while others are of the opinion that the Argentine wonderboy failed to live up to the expectations. As Argentina went out of the mega-event yesterday, tweets flowed in on Twitter and Lionel Messi was the common factor in all of them.
However, the Barcelona superstar’s fans believe that Messi is not responsible for Argentina’s early exit and the team failed to perform collectively. There were another group of people whose opinions differ and they believe Messi should have done more for the team.
Here’s what both the groups had to say:
Argentina's defence was so bad throughout the tournament. Put Messi in Iran's team and he'd win the World Cup.

Be logical, stop being immature and stop trolling Messi for everything what happens with Argentina. If your team is no good to defend and mark the players of the opposition, a player like Ronaldo, Messi, Pele or any other individual cannot do any good to the team ALONE.#FRAARG

You carry your country to 3 finals,to be let down by teammates.
You come out of retirement, single handedly pull your team into the #WorldCup Once you get there, your manager loses all footballing knowledge, and gets you knocked out early.

Anybody who blames Messi for Argentina’s exit must never watch football again

World Cup or no World Cup, Messi still remains the Greatest of All Time. One World Cup does not define his legacy. Dragged a mediocre squad to multiple World Cups, including a final. Argentina had no right to make it this far, but they did, because of Leo. Nothing left to prove.

blaming one of the greatest player in the world isn’t gonna change the result. Messi tried his best and that’s what matters #FRAARG

Not winning a World Cup takes nothing away from your legacy. You are and will always be the GOAT .This team wasn’t even supposed to be in this World Cup but Messi dragged them to this competition. This loss hurts 💔 we are always with you…#FRAARG pic.twitter.com/gP9U9nARtZ

Really sad to see the way how Messi played on the #WorldCup18 . He can’t carry #ARG alone. But he did it last time. So we expected he will do it again. Sadly Argentina defence is the worst defence of the tournament. #ThankYouMessi for the entertainment😊❤️#FRAARG #WorldCup

Time for the opposing group to have their say:
"They didn't help him."
All commentators whenever Messi with Argentina is mentioned.
"They didn't help him."
When I was growing up, the best player on the team helped the team & not the other way 'round.
What do I even know though?

You are going to see many analysis trying to absolve Messi of criticisms for Argentina's ouster. Stay woke, don't be deceived.
Messi didn't have a great World Cup, and that's normal because he's human and can have bad times.
What I don't get is the thought he can't be faulted.

Lionel Messi and Argentina knocked out of the World Cup: Superstar faces never winning football's biggest prize as he fails to score in knockout game at eighth attempt https://t.co/qqnzykNvD0

Bruuuhhh I did not know Messi has never scored in the knockout stages of a World Cup. 4 tournaments, 0 goals past the group stage.

MESSI DID NOT JUST KICK IT STRAIGHT TO THE GOALIE WHEN HE WAS ON A BREAK AWAY DID HE ? OH WAIT HE DID AHHH 🤧
— zoe alvarez (@zalvarez8) June 30, 2018
No way am I seeing people giving Messi all the credit for getting past the group stage. He literally would be out earlier if it weren’t for Rojos goal. Would hate to be his teammate.

It’s as if Argentina didnt score 6 goals this World Cup and Messi only scored 1 of those. How isn’t the team doing their bit?
Portugal has scored 5 goals and CR has 4 of those. I don’t care about Messi and Argentina are out, but Messi is the most protected player.

Lionel Messi fanboys are really pathetic. Why can’t you acknowledge that while in his prime he was maybe the best to ever play the game, he hasn’t been at that level or done anything in big games for a few years now. Today was rock-bottom
