India gets its first international skiing medal in the name of Aanchal thakur, gets wished by Narendra Modi

Aanchal Thakur is a competitor for India in skiing and represented India at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics that took place in Innsburk.




She took part in the alpine skiing – Girl’s Slalom and Girl’s Giant Slalom events.  Thakur was named to India’s 2017 Asian Winter games team in February 2017.

She has acquired a Bronze medal in the slalom race category at Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup organised by Skiing’s international governing body, Federation International de Ski (FIS) at the Palandoken Ski Centre, in Erzurum in Turkey.

Naturally, she wanted to express her joy and share her happiness of this amazing success with the world.  So she tweeted “Finally something unexpected happened. My first ever international medal. Federation International Ski Race (FIS). At the end turkey served me well”.




She also talked about this to times of India. “Months of training have finally borne fruit. I started well and managed to take a good lead, which helped later in getting the third-place finish” she said.

Roshan Thakur the proud father of the winner,  who also works as the the secretary general of the Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI), also spoke to the newspaper and described her achievement as a “breakthrough for the sport in India”. He said “I can’t express my joy in words. She has been training very hard since childhood and this medal has brought her recognition. We hope she will get help now”.

Everybody loves her for what she did. Her achievements is not only limited to her success but also the country’s pride.  “Well done @alleaanchal for winning an international medal in skiing! The entire nation is ecstatic on your historic accomplishment at the FIS International Skiing Competition in Turkey. Wishing you the very best for your future endeavours” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
