Indian sprinter Hima Das made the nation proud as she clinched the gold medal in the 400m final – at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland on Thursday. She became the first Indian to achieve the feat in a track event.
The 18-year-old took just 51.46 seconds to reach the finish line which saw her claim the top position. Andrea Miklos of Romania clocked 52.07 seconds to grab the second position while the third position went to USA’s Taylor Manson who took 52.28 seconds to reach the finish line.
A tensed Hima Das started slow and trailed on the home stretch but her electrifying run in the final 80m saw her overtake three rivals to the finish line.
