Deepika Padukone to play the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi in Meghan Gulzar’s next

If we take a look at the Bollywood industry, one of the current best actresses to gift us beautiful films is Deepika Padukone. After working in successful films like Cocktail, Piku and Padmaavat, that showcased her acting prowess perfectly, Deepika is all set to take up another challenging role which could be one of the bests she has ever done.

If you are wondering what we are talking about, let us clear the air for you. Deepika is will not only play the lead but also produce Meghna Gulzar’s next project based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

Deepika will be seen on the large screen first time since Padmaavat released and as per the reports of Mumbai Mirror, the actress was so moved by the story that she decided to fund it. With a strong storyline, this film is also expected to do good business like Meghna’s first film Raazi which is considered to be one of the most powerful films of the year so far.

Deepika told Mumbai Mirror:

“When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer”

Laxmi’s story is truly heartbreaking as she was attacked in 2005 by a man after she rejected his marriage proposal. She was one of the winners of the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award in 2014. She also hosted a few episodes of a TV show and walked the ramp at London Fashion Week in 2016. But currently, without a job, she is in a situation of concern and facing possible eviction from her home as well.

Following the likes of Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra, this will be Deepika’s first film as a producer and we wish her all the best for her upcoming projects. At the same time, we hope the Laxmi gets the much-needed recognition after the film hits the screens which would help her land a job to earn her living.
