Honeypreet Insan, the “adopted daughter” of the now jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh shoes her willingness to surrender but only if certain conditions are met, says the reports shown by media. Zee news says that Honeypreet was likely to surrender herself before the Punjab and Haryana High court on Thursday. “I told the person I was talking to on the phone to surrender herself” Honeypreet’s lawyer Pradeep Kumar Arya said to Zee news.
The Delhi High court dismissed the plea which was based on her transit anticipatory bail. If she actually wanted bail she would directly have to come up to the court. The plea is without merit. “Honeypreet has been evading arrest in Haryana” said Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal. “The easiest way out for you would be to surrender” the court observed. The motive of this plea was to be exempted from arrest while she is hiding or roaming i.e. while transit.
In Honeypreet’s appeal, she claimed her life was at stake. Her advocate Pradeep Kumar Arya told the bench that she was wanting to join the investigation procedure but only stayed back as she wanted protection from arrest.
She was facing a case of sedition as she was alleged to have incited violence in Haryana after her father was arrested. Along with Honeypreet there were 43 others whom the police have named as wanted in the Panchkula rioting case. It was after Ram Rahim’s conviction on August 25 that violence and arson had erupted in Panchkula and Sirsa district of Haryana leaving 41 people dead and injuring several others. The CBI court sentenced Ram Rahim to 20 years of imprisonment for raping two of his disciples in 2002.
She had asked for bail for her ongoing journey from Delhi to Haryana as she was willing to join the investigation in the sedition case. After hearing her requests Haryana police put a hindrance to the filing of the plea in the Delhi High court adding how it was “a ploy to do ‘forum shopping.'”
Delhi police also spoke up how it was expected of her to approach with her petition to the Punjab and Haryana High court instead of filing it to the Delhi High court. The police of Delhi and Haryana opposed her plea for anticipatory bail for three whole weeks as the court of competent jurisdiction would be present in Haryana.
After their failure of arresting the Dera aides before which also included Honeypreet Insan, the Haryana police have now formed a new team to make sure of their arrest.
It had been over a month since Honeypreet has been escaping from arrest. The close Gurmeet Ram Rahim aide may move anticipatory bail plea today, which if rejected, may result in her surrendering before the cops. Honeypreet has escaped being caught nearly 6 times in a row. The state police was accused of helping her and other aides after several lookout notices and non bailable arrest warrants issued against them by the Panchkula court.
Police officials firmly believed that she’ll be under arrest or will surrender herself. Haryana Police had already installed barricades across the state in a bid to arrest Honeypreet. Constant searching of vehicles took place to ensure Honeypreet didn’t escape by keeping herself disguised. Since the Honeypreet exclusive interview on India Today and Aak Tak was telecast, the Haryana Police had swung into action.
Police officials had sent teams to Hamirpur and Chopal areas of Himachal Pradesh, besides Malout in Punjab, Ghaziabad, New Delhi and in Rajasthan to keep check of her escapade.
Today, Honeypreet Insan has been arrested by the Haryana police. Panchkula Police commissoner A.W.Chawla confirmed “Honeypreet Insan has been taken into custody”. The Haryana police officials also made it known that she’ll be put in front of the court the next day itself.
The Panchkula Police commissoner said ” Honeypreet along with another woman arrested by Haryana Police from Zirakpur-Patiala road in Punjab”.
After the arrest, Panchkula Commissioner said, “Probing her links to August 25 violence. We will find out people who helped her abscond for so long and they will be punished”.
Priyanka Taneja alias Honeypreet, topped the list of 43 people ‘wanted’ by the Haryana Police in connection with the incidents of violence on August 25 in Panchkula. The police also made it known that all the people who are related to the arson in any way or had helped her from escaping from the hands of the cops several times will be severely punished.
