India is a cricket dominated country where most of the attention goes towards the cricket team while other sports are often neglected. But like cricket, Indian football is has been making us proud for long. And it is time to do justice to these footballers who give their all on the pitch for the country each and every time.
In the Intercontinental Cup 2018, India has been in sublime form right from the beginning and they have successfully carried the momentum till the end by scripting an emphatic 2-0 victory against Kenya on Sunday in Mumbai.
A few days ago Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri sent out a plea on popular social media website Twitter urging all the football fanatics in India to visit the stadiums during the matches and show their full support to the team. Chhetri’s video worked wonders and tickets were sold out within a day.
Sunil Chhetri who has been unstoppable in the tournament paid back the supporters in style. he himself scored the two goals in the final against Kenya. both the goals came in the first half and now the talismanic Indian captain is level with Lionel Messi as far as the highest active international goalscorers’ list is concerned. He is only second to Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo who has netted 81 times for his country.
Here is one of his goals:

This was indeed a step forward for Indian football and our boys proved everyone wrong once again those who did not believe in them. The terrific performances throughout the tournament clearly portray the wonderful work Stephen Constantine has done with the team and we can surely expect more such performances to come.
It is time for the people in helm to back the boys with the proper infrastructure and all that they need to continue making us proud at such a high level. If we continue this way, believe us, the time is not far till we see the boys represent us in the grandest stage of them all, the World Cup.
Here is how the world reacted:
