Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has made it a habit of making headlines due to his sensational abilities as a footballer. He is one of the best footballers to have ever played the game and there is no two way about it. Though the Juventus star has not yet settled down in his new club, he has once again made the headlines, but this time for a different reason.
According to a German magazine Der Spiegel, Cristiano Ronaldo had allegedly raped an American woman back in the year 2009, in the month of June, in a hotel room in Las Vegas.
Going by the words of news.com.au, Ronaldo has denied the claims and has said that the sex was consensual. He has vowed to sue the magazine for publishing “blatantly illegal” claims made by the woman.
As reported by India.com, Ronaldo’s lawyer Christian Schertz has said that he would seek legal redress for his client from the magazine. He also believes that the report was “an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy”.
It is reported that a sum of more than USD 500,000 (£287,000) was paid by the Juventus frontman to the woman, who has charged him of anal rape, to keep shut. But now the out-of-court agreement that Ronaldo and the victim Kathryn Mayorga reached is being challenged by her lawyer, Leslie Mark Stovall.
However, the magazine’s deputy editor in chief, Alfred Weinzierl, told Reuters that before publishing the news they had repeatedly written to Ronaldo’s management and lawyers.
Now, this might turn out to be a bad thing for Cristiano and his fans, though we are unaware of the truth.
