Supreme Court decriminalises homosexuality in historic judgement, humanity stands victorious

In a world where people are waiting for a reason to discriminate, we are no stranger to the everyday struggles faced by the LGBT community. From the regular taunts on roads to denying them equal rights, these people have always been looked down upon. However, 6th September 2018 seems to be a new beginning for the LGBT community who are nothing but humans like us.

According to TOI, in a historic judgment on Thursday, the Supreme Court of India ruled that consensual adult gay sex is not a crime. It also stated that sexual orientation is natural and people have no control over it.

As per a Hindustan Times report, a five-judge constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, read down the Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, decriminalising the matter.

Section 377 refers to ‘unnatural offences’ and says whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to pay a fine.

Celebrities like Shashi Tharoor and Karan Johar stood up immediately for the decision.

Congratulations India, a big step towards development. 🙂
