WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo shows his humanitarian side by carrying an injured Edinson Cavani out of the pitch
Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup hopes were put to a dead end after Uruguay edged past Portugal in their round of 16 clash yesterday. Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani struck twice to sink the Portuguese in a nail-biting encounter. Cristiano Ronaldo was kept quiet throughout the match by a Diego Godin-led defense which has been phenomenal in this edition of the tournament.
However, apart from Cavani’s heroics, another incident has grabbed a plethora of eyeballs and it involves Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo. And of course, Cavani himself.
Cavani found himself suffering from severe calf pain in the middle of the field with 20 minutes to go for the final whistle. It was a major blow for the Uruguayans as it became evident that their talisman will not be able to continue.
In came Cristiano Ronaldo. Highlighting the spirit of true sportsmanship. The number 7 wrapped his arms around Cavani, who was struggling to walk off the pitch and helped him out of the touchline.
