Imran Khan admits knowing about Vikas Bahl’s behavior, apologizes for being late in speaking up
Director Vikas Bahl finds his career in jeopardy as yet another Bollywood celebrity has opened up about his sexual misconduct with women. Vikas Bahl made the headlines back in 2015 when an ex-Phantom films employee accused the director of sexually harassing her. Recently the woman reiterated her allegations of molestation against the film director which provoked a few other people to speak up against him as well.
After the accusations went viral, first it was Kangana Ranaut who slammed the director for sexual harassment. The ‘Queen’ actress said that Vikas would bury his face in her neck and smell her hair.
Following Kangana, another actress also alleged that Vikas tried to kiss her forcibly during a party pretending to be drunk.
The ex-Phantom Film employee who was forced to leave the job due to Vikas’s actions, also revealed in her statement that she went to Anurag Kashyap and narrated the whole incident seeking help but no action was taken against Vikas Bahl. However, Anurag Kashyap has apologized for not taking actions against his partner despite being aware of his behavior.
Considering the shameful charges against him, Vikas has already been dropped from Super 30, a film which stars Hrithik Roshan in the lead. Hrithik has also said that a ‘harsh stand’ will be taken against Vikas if needed.
Similarly, now another celebrity feels guilty to not have spoken up earlier about Vikas’s shamelessness and he is none other than Imran Khan.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Imran shed light on how everyone knew about Vikas’s misbehavior but still kept quiet. He mentioned that he had heard about the producer’s dirty games from three different actresses.
“I have heard his stories from three other actresses. Ranging from inappropriate touching to straight up saying that if you were cast in the film, what will I get in return.”
“I was advised to stay quiet because they said people will assume I am trying to grab publicity. They (people) will say I am trying to become relevant and come in the news since my films have not worked well. Time and again, people around me will tell me to not speak up.”
According to Hindustan Times, Imran also spoke about a party where Imran tried to discuss a possible #MeToo movement in Bollywood but got no backing.
“I saw him smiling (Vikas Bahl), posing for pictures with every celebrity in the industry. At that point, he started making a film with Hrithik (Roshan). I was like how is it in Hollywood a culprit is shunned but here he was making a proper film. Everyone was socialising with him. So, I brought it up at the party and realised only I was only odd one there.”
He also showed his full support towards women who have faced such filthy behavior and lauded their effort to come out and speak. Issuing an apology for taking so long to stand by the women, Imran Khan put forward a helping hand to the victims.
“I cannot be silent about it anymore. My conscience will not allow me to…I do not want them to feel that men in the industry are not standing by them. I have chosen my words and said what I intended to say. I have been silent for long enough and it makes me feel dirty.”
The #metoo movement has definitely unmasked a few sexual predators like Vikas Bahl and has brought about a positive change in the industry. We hope all the people at fault to be punished and justice for those who went through such traumatic experiences. Let’s start afresh this Durga Puja.
