Today, almost every country is referred to as a ‘developing country’. We can never say that a country is entirely developed. India is one of the countries which is developing everyday because of the thousands of people residing in this country and regularly sharing their opinions on having better living or working conditions and also, participating in the governing and administration of the country through elections. People’s opinions play a vital role in the development of a country because that’s how a country grows and becomes a better place to live in.

Now, what do think under whose supervision our country becomes a better place to live in? – The President Of India. The primary duty of the president is to protect, preserve and defend the constitution of India. There have been 14 presidents since the introduction of the post in 1950, but one man showed us the greatness of our country, inspired the youth with his power of knowledge and made equality a great aspect for unity. He was none other than Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam better known as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was the 11th President Of India from 2002 to 2007 and was widely referred to as the ‘People’s President’.

Here are 5 reasons why Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was the ‘best president’ of India:

His contribution to Science

Kalam was popularly known as the ‘Missile Man Of India’ as he worked on the development of basic missiles and launch development technology. He was the first scientist to sit in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Before becoming the 11th President Of India, he worked as an Aerospace engineer with DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).

Inspiring young minds

“For me there are only two types of people: The young and the experienced.” – Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam.

Not only was he the ‘Missile Man Of India’ but also a youth icon for this generation. Kalam had believed that the future of this nation is the youth and there is nothing which can stop them from developing a nation with their ideas and creativity. He visited colleges and schools to understand the youth. Lovingly he was called ‘Kalam Chacha’ by the students and children.

Development of a nation

Kalam had believed that he would change India into a ‘developed country’ through his plans on development. His plans involved increase in resources – both natural and man-made, changes in the GDP rate, decrease in poverty rates, growth in technological and strategies industries, education and healthcare, etc.

India 2020: A vision for the new millennium, was written by Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam. The book mainly focuses on the weakness and strengths of our nation and the developmental plans of Kalam on a ‘developed’ country by the year 2020.

Truly secular

Kalam promoted secularism and he always treated Hindus and Muslims equally. He was well versed with Bhagwat Gita, Koran, Bible, etc. Also, whenever he spoke about religion, he spoke about all religions and their cultures and traditions.

Being more than just a political figure

Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam was an inspirational speaker and motivational figure. He was a writer and a scientist. He wrote many books like ‘India 2020’ , ‘Ignited Minds’ , ‘Agni ki Udaan’ , etc. He was not only inspired by the people of our nation, but also he was a global figure who appreciated his work.

Even today on his 86th birthday anniversary, his ideas and plans have been inspiring all and we are taking small steps towards a developed country.

Happy Birthday sir!
