The adopted daughter of the Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, convicted of rape, had become a household name before she was arrested today. While speaking to IndiaToday, Honeypreet Insan spoke about a whole host of things, including the rape case, why she absconded and most importantly, of her relationship with her adopted father.

Here are some of the things she said before her arrest:

1) The media tainted the father-daughter relationship

She accused the media of defamation as several media channels, print or AV ran stories of there being a possible sexual relationship between the father and daughter. Her ex-husband has fueled the fire by accusing her of the same to the media for the past month. She said “I do not understand how can someone question the holy relationship between a father and daughter? My main concern was the way the media projected me. How can they malign a father and daughter’s relationship? Can a father not keep his hands on his daughter? Can a daughter not love her father?”

2) We will fight as my father is innocent

She claimed that both her father and she are innocent and that she will leave no stone unturned to prove it. She said she is convinced that the truth will soon come out. She urged people not to believe in rumours as her relationship with her father is pure.

3) Plotting the riots

After her father’s conviction, riots broke out on 28th August and resulted in the death of 31 people. Honeypreet has been accused of plotting these riots. To this she said “I want to ask, how can a girl go alone without appropriate permission in the middle of the force? Later, they all said I was wrong. I just need to say that all the evidence in there for the world to see. They accuse me of being involved in riots, but do they have any evidence against me? I am innocent. Have you seen me anywhere inciting riots? I was not present there at all.”

4) What was the reason for her disappearance?

Immediately after the conviction, Honeypreet was nowhere to be found and rumours of her escaping to Nepal surfaced soon after. Responding to this, she quoted “I went into depression. The girl who talked about patriotism with her father went to jail, then she was accused of treason. I did not know the legal process. After my father’s departure, I became helpless. I did what people guided me to do. I will now go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. But it will take some time to handle my present mental state.”

5) Skeletons found at Dera

She was blunt and said “Have they found any skeletons in the Dera premises? There have been only talks so far and nothing has been proved. My papa is not guilty and in future he will be proven innocent.”

6) Alleged sexual assault of the girls at Dera

The Dera chief was accused and convicted because of sexual exploitation of the sadhvis and other younger girls at the premises. To this his daughter said “On the basis of one letter, how can anyone be held guilty? My father is innocent and his innocence will be proved. No women were molested at the Dera. They have not considered the opinion of other women from Dera and the women who accused him did not come forward.” She also claimed that she will remain the one in charge as of now and an heir is unnecessary.

Lastly, she said, “I and my father are innocent and the truth will come out soon. My relationship with my father is pure. Please don’t trust these baseless allegations.”

As of now, she is in custody of the police.
